This project aims to assess the impacts and results of managing the shared fishThe La Union M&E System mobile app is an innovative tool designed to monitor and evaluate the impacts of managing shared fish stocks within the Fisheries Management Area (FMA) of the Province of La Union. This app serves as a comprehensive platform that tracks the ecological and human well-being outcomes associated with fisheries governance, guided by the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) principles.
The app aims to provide stakeholders—ranging from government agencies, fishery managers, and local communities to NGOs and researchers—with reliable, up-to-date data on how well the management strategies are contributing to the ecological sustainability of marine ecosystems and the socio-economic well-being of fisherfolk and coastal residents. By integrating key performance indicators and real-time analytics, users can assess the effectiveness of policies and programs focused on sustainable fishing practices and habitat conservation.
La Union M&E System also plays a crucial role in supporting the Fisheries Refugia initiative, which designates specific areas as sanctuaries to protect critical habitats essential for fish breeding, feeding, and refuge. These refugia help ensure the long-term sustainability of fish stocks, contributing to food security and the livelihood of local communities. Through seamless data collection and analysis, the app empowers decision-makers to make evidence-based adjustments to management strategies to optimize conservation efforts and fish stock regeneration.
This project aims to assess the impacts and results of managing the shared fish stocks within the FMA and any positive progress in the ecological well-being of ecosystems and resources and the human well-being of stakeholders as well as the effectiveness of the governance mechanism, based on the EAFM principles in the Province of La Union.
Through the collective effort supported by this app, La Union aims to establish a model of effective fisheries governance that can be replicated in other regions.
